Geranium essential oil is a fragrant oil derived from the leaves and flowers of the Pelargonium graveolens plant, a species commonly known as geranium. This plant is native to South Africa but is now cultivated in various parts of the world for its aromatic and medicinal properties.

Although this perennial shrub is indigenous to South Africa, the Geranium plant is now cultivated throughout the world, namely in Central America, Europe, the Congo, Egypt, Russia, and Japan. The Geranium species that is most commonly cultivated for the extraction of the sweet-smelling essential oil is Pelargonium graveolens. Depending on the country in which the specific varieties of Geraniums originate, Geranium Essential Oils may exhibit differing properties.

Geranium essential oil has a floral, sweet, and slightly herbaceous aroma, reminiscent of roses. It is obtained through steam distillation of the plant's aerial parts, such as leaves and stems. The resulting essential oil is highly concentrated and carries the characteristic scent and potential therapeutic benefits of the plant.
