Grapeseed Oil is cold pressed from the seeds of the Vitis Vinifera fruit to yield a lightweight, nutritious, non-greasy and absorbable carrier oil with little to no odour and a light yellow/greencolour. The Vitis Vinifera vine is primarily cultivated to produce grapes for winemaking. Grapeseed oil is obtained simply by pressing the seeds from the fruit.
Grapeseed oil is commonly used in skincare and cosmetic products due to its lightweight texture and beneficial properties for the skin. It is easily absorbed and non-greasy, making it suitable for moisturizers, serums, and massage oils. It is believed to have antioxidant properties that can help nourish and moisturize the skin, and it is often used in formulations for its potential anti-aging and skin-rejuvenating effects.Grapeseed oil is also used in hair care products, including shampoos, conditioners, and hair oils. It can help moisturize and condition the hair, leaving it soft, shiny, and manageable.
Grapeseed Oil contains an impressive catalogue of polyphenols as well as being rich in omega-6 linoleic fatty acids.
Grapeseed Oil can help prevent trans-epidermal water loss and assists in retaining water on the skin. Topical use creates an occlusive barrier in the skin, which can still be visible 2-3 days after application. Given its high percentages of Oleic (70%) and Linoleic (20%) acids, almond oil can penetrates the skin at a moderate rate, and can be beneficial as a skin lubricant and emoillient.
In general, nuts, seeds, and legumes are excellent sources of phytosterols, both for the body and for skin. Phytosterols can help replenish and restore ageing skin, keeping it pliant and supple.
Grapeseed oil is a valuable addition for both soap-makers and cosmetic chemists and can be useful in many formulations, including creams, facial oils, massage oils, soap, salves, balms and lotions.
Grapeseed oil is insoluble in water and alchohol, but soluble in other oils. It should be added to the formula as is, in the fat phase of the formulation, and can be used at 1-100%, as it can be used neat in massage oils.
