Coconut oil, Cocos nucifera oil, is a commercial product that has evolved over the last few decades in its uses and reputation. It is a valuable oil for cooking, health, skincare, soaping and cosmetics manufacturing. RBD coconut oil is a type of coconut oil that is ‘refined, bleached, and deodorised.’ This process involves filtering and bleaching the oil, which is then heated to a high temperature. The high heat temperature deodorises the oil and kills germs and any other bacteria. Finally, mono fats and any remaining free fats are removed

The main chemical constituents of Coconut Carrier Oils are: Lauric Acid, Capric Acid and Caprylic Acid, Linoleic Acid (Polyunsaturated Fats), Oleic Acid (Monounsaturated Fats), Polyphenols (Virgin Coconut Oil only), and Medium-Chain Triglycerides.

Coconut oil is widely used in the formulation of cosmetics, including lotions, creams, serums, and hair care products. Its lightweight texture allows for easy application and absorption, leaving the skin feeling non-greasy and smooth. As a natural source of antioxidants, coconut oil aids in protecting the skin against environmental damage and free radicals, promoting a more youthful appearance. It is also known for its ability to enhance skin elasticity, making it a valuable ingredient for reducing the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines.

Properties:

Long Shelf Life: The refining process contributes to a longer shelf life compared to unrefined coconut oil.

High Smoke Point: Refined coconut oil has a higher smoke point than unrefined coconut oil, making it suitable for cooking at higher temperatures.

Neutral Flavor: The removal of impurities results in a neutral taste, making it versatile for various culinary applications.

Versatile Use: Refined coconut oil can be used in cooking, baking, frying, and as a general-purpose oil in cosmetic and skincare formulations.

Odour: Neutral or odorless, as the refining process removes the natural coconut aroma.

Texture: Liquid at temperatures above 76°F (24°C) and solid at lower temperatures.

Melting Point: The melting point is around 76°F (24°C).

Fatty Acid Composition: Refined coconut oil is rich in saturated fats, primarily medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs), including lauric acid, myristic acid, and caprylic acid.
