Lip Treatment Oil

Lip Treatment Oil

Lip oils not only give your lips a beautiful glossy shine, but they also nourish, soften, and protect your lips from dehydration and cracking.

Lip oils are made with natural oils and other beneficial ingredients that nourish and hydrate the lips. They have a consistency somewhere between a lip gloss and a lip balm. Lip oils add a glossy shine to the lips and can be worn alone, under lipstick or on top of lipstick to protect the lips against dryness and cracking.

This formulation includes skin-loving ingredients like Vitamin E and natural oils such as jojoba, coconut, and red raspberry seed oil.

This formulation makes 100g of Lip Treatment Oil, and can be scaled up to suit.

Basic Formulation and Ingredients:

  • Base Oil: Choose a nourishing, lightweight carrier oil as the base for your lip oil. Common options include jojoba oil, sweet almond oil, coconut oil, or grapeseed oil. The base oil provides moisturisation and carries any added flavor or scent. In this formulation, we have used Jojoba Oil, Red Raspberry Seed Oil, Castor Oil and Coconut Oil
  • Isoamyl LaurateIsoamyl Laurate is a high spreading, light emollient for natural formulations with a light and non-sticky skin feel and a natural alternative to silicones in skincare.

METHOD:

  1. Prepare and Sanitise: Before starting, ensure that all your equipment and the chosen bottle are clean and sanitised to prevent contamination.

  2. Measure Ingredients: Using a digital scale, measure out the desired amount of your chosen base oil. The amount depends on the size of your dropper bottle and how much lip oil you want to make. A typical ratio is 80-90% base oil.

  3. Add Flavour (Optional): If you want to add flavour,  use a dropper or pipette to add a few drops of the flavour extract or essential oil to the base oil. Start with a small amount and adjust to your preference. Be cautious not to use too much, as some flavourings  can be overpowering.

  4. Include Vitamin E (Optional): If you're using vitamin E oil, add a few drops to the mixture. Vitamin E provides added benefits for the lips and helps extend the shelf life of the lip oil.

  5. Mix Thoroughly: Using a clean, sterile stirring rod or a disposable pipette, mix all the ingredients thoroughly until they are well combined. Ensure that the flavor or scent is evenly distributed throughout the base oil.

  6. Transfer to the Dropper Bottle: Using a funnel or a dropper, carefully pour the mixture into your sterilised dropper bottle. Leave some space at the top to avoid spillage when inserting the dropper or rollerball applicator.

  7. Label the Bottle: Label the bottle with the name of your lip oil, its ingredients, and the date of creation. This information helps you keep track of your formulation and its shelf life.

  8. Store Properly: Store your lip oil in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight. This helps preserve the quality of the oil and prevents it from degrading.

  9. Use and Enjoy: To use your homemade lip oil, apply a few drops onto your lips using the dropper or rollerball applicator. Gently rub your lips together to spread the oil evenly. Lip oils are great for hydrating and adding a subtle shine to the lips.

Flavour or Scent (Optional): You can add natural flavourings like vanilla extract, or specialised lip flavourings.

Vitamin E (Optional): Vitamin E oil is often added for its antioxidant properties, which can help protect the lips from free radical damage.

Dropper Bottle: Choose a clean, empty dropper bottle or rollerball bottle to store your lip oil. Make sure it's been properly sterilised.
